How Kenyan Students Can Pay the SEVIS Fee in 2026
If you are a Kenyan student heading to the United States in 2026, paying the I-901 SEVIS fee is a required step before your Embassy interview. The fee is $350 for F-1 students and $220 for J-1 exchange visitors. Kenyan students increasingly use facilitation services like SEVISMate to pay in KES without needing a dollar card.
Payment Options for Kenyan Students
- SEVISMate: Pay in KES using M-PESA, Equity Bank, KCB, or your local card. We submit to DHS on your behalf.
- Equity Bank Dollar Card: Equity offers USD prepaid cards. Load at least $360 and enable international transactions before paying on fmjfee.com.
- Co-operative Bank or NCBA Dollar Account: Transfer USD directly if you maintain a dollar account.
Current KES Rate (2026)
At current exchange rates, $350 USD is approximately KES 45,000–50,000. Rates fluctuate — SEVISMate always shows the current KES rate at checkout.
What You Need Before Paying
- Your Form I-20 or DS-2019 (issued by your US school/program)
- Your SEVIS ID (starts with N00... on the I-20)
- Your full name exactly as it appears on your passport
- Your visa interview date (so we know your deadline)
Pay Early, Not Late
The US Embassy Nairobi requires your SEVIS fee to be paid before your interview. Submit at least 5 business days before to be safe.
